Program Overview

In this program I expected to learn a little on what makes up of the computer and a little of what software programs help benefit the computer. I also expected to learn how to repair computers. My favorite activity was when the imaging consultant had come around the second time to teach us about first and lasting impressions. I liked this activity particularly because it was the most beneficial activity I had encountered. The imaging consultant had taught us how to greet people and interact with them. She also informed us on how to leave contact information. Some activities we should drop are reading and taking notes alone. I think that we should do things more together then separate, because when together people learn more. Some new activities that should be included to this program next year could be some software programming activities because I really wanted to learn more about how programs worked.

Yes I have been able to use many of the skills that I had acquired in this program. For example I used the PowerPoint presentation to benefit me with a couple of my projects. I learned how to fill out a job application and also my resume. When I was around important people I was able to create a good first impression and a great lasting impression. Yes this program helped me with school because it helped me save my documents on Gmail, which was shown to me by this program.

The thing that I enjoyed most about the program overall were the people I had met. The instructors were very nice and great. The peers I had met were fantastic. They were funny, smart, and filled with curiosity. I also enjoyed several of the activities that were held by the program. The thing that I liked least about the program was the amount of time they gave for it and how it is only a one year program. I really hope that they will extend this program to be for a longer period of time. I wanted thank the staff for accepting me into this program and helping me work towards my goals. Thank you all.

Employment Information

In the past I have had little experience with computers. I used them daily through middle school for projects and papers. I had done manual labor to obtain money. For example I did a lot of yard work and landscaping around my postal area. Now though, I plan on moving from the landscaping industry into the computer industry. I like working with computers because things get accomplished quicker and more efficient. It makes the job much easier to type out a document and have it spell checked then to write it out on paper and have to spell check it yourself. I can be very lenient and tolerable with the people I work with. When it comes to the job I'd prefer to be placed in the software programming area where it can greatly benefit me.

Before this program I didn't know much about computers. As said before, I used computers on a daily basis but never went past the basics. It was only used for academics and nothing further like a career. I knew how to access the Internet and browse the web for information that I needed to obtain. I knew how to work most of the Microsoft Office applications fairly well. I knew how to operate Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint. This was all I really knew about computers.

After the program I learned a lot more not only about computers but about the real world that's soon to come. With computers I learned what a blog was. I learned how to make PowerPoint's effective and also how to fill in a job application. I learned how to communicate with people easier through email and also how to save documents on a Gmail. Gmail was a great thing that I had learned about because I was able to save documents on my email and go home to complete my tasks, then just email it to my teachers afterwards. I also learned about networking and how useful it is to be associated with as many people as possible.

I have multiple long terms goals that I plan to get accomplished. I plan on going on to The Ohio State University and go at least as far as a Master's degree. After obtaining this degree I'll look for a job that suits me best and maintain the job for a steady time. After having had the job for at least 2-3 years I plan to start up my own family. In about five years I will be at The Ohio State University and working on my Bachelors degree. In 10 years I plan to either be finishing up my Master's degree or working on that steady job.

Summer Employment Expectations

For my summer job I am looking forward to getting employed in a nice work environment. I want to be able to work with computers, of course. Hopefully the summer intern appointed to me will be math related because math is my strongest subject. I wouldn't mind typing up things either because I'm quite capable of typing at a good speed. From this summer intern though I am looking forward to making it a year round job. I don't want them to discontinue me after my 10 week internship. If it were possible, I'd like them to bring me back and have me work it as my job throughout high school. If this means that I have to work really hard then I will do so.

Summer Job

The summer job that I would like to have is anything thats inside and computer related. It would be preferable if it had something that I'd have a team for because I really don't like to work alone. If I could work as some source of computer engineer or tech support that'd be greatly appreciated. I'd like to do this because it would look very good on my resume and would really be helpful to me while I'm pursuing my career in technology. I think that I would be good within computer engineering and/or tech support because I have a great amount of interest for the subject. I think that I could easily cope with the instructions that are given to me and follow them thoroughly. These types of jobs could be found at Geek Squad, Microcenter, or any other computer related stations.

My Winter Break

During my winter break I don't expect to get a lot done except maybe to watch some movies or hang out with some friends. On December 22, my dad will be returning home for the holidays. He is to stay with us until January 1 of the new year. On the 22nd I might be going to a winter bash party that a friend is going to throw. I'm really looking forward to that because I have never been to a winter party before.

Around Christmas eve I'm probably going to be hanging out with my best friend Isaiah. He's hanging out with his mom and opening presents. Only reason I'm looking forward to this is because I've never really seen Christmas eve nor Christmas up close. By that I meant that all I know about Christmas is what you see on television which is very ignorant. So for me getting this opportunity to see what Christmas is like in reality is kind of a treat to me.

On Christmas day I'll be hanging out with another one of my best friends. She's going to be alone for Christmas so I decided to kind of hang out with her so she won't feel alone for Christmas. After that it's all undecided what I'll be doing. I really want to watch Alvin and the Chipmunks and I am Legend because they look very interesting and funny. If I get lucky I'll get the chance to snowboard at Snow Trails. The icing on the cake for my winter break would be for O.S.U. to give L.S.U. a beat down. GO BUCKS!!

PowerPoint Presentation

This workshop taught me some new things that I hadn't known about the new Microsoft 2007 PowerPoint. There was a new way to time the slides where you had to prerecord the slide show so that you could rehearse your speech. There were a couple of new things to the program that benefited towards the power point, but there were also some set backs too. There are now fewer options you can choose from when you're choosing your background or layout for the slides. But the upside to this was that you could now customize the way you wanted it to look. For example you could change colors of the background or the boarder of the slides to different colors and make it your taste.

I think that this presentation could have been a little bit more lively. In my opinion it was a little dull and dead. If it were to have some of the qualities that came with the new PowerPoint, like animation or some music it could have made the presentation a bit better. I really wanted to see how the videos would've been uploaded to the PowerPoint. If they added some sound animation to the presentation I could have been more attentive to the presentation. Other then that I found the presentation to be quite useful.

I feel pretty good using PowerPoint 2007. I think that its got its up and downs. I liked how it was remodeled because it looks more industrialized. I find the new tabs near the bar more useful because it shows whats all in the tab. I also really liked how the PowerPoint 2007 shows the layouts of what you scroll over. The animation has also been changed so that when you move your cursor over the sound it plays a little clip for you. Overall I found that the PowerPoint 2007 is a little better than the previous programs.

Introduction

Welcome to Afif's blog page. I am 15 and a sophomore at Centennial High, the home of the Stars. I'm a very nice guy who enjoys having lots of laughs. I can be a very steadfast friend to people who I'm close to. I like to hang out with my friends and play basketball everyday, those things are my daily necessities. I like to watch movies once in a while and I have to watch t.v. at least once a day. I love to watch college football and I absolutely love to watch the NBA play. My favorite football team would be Ohio State and my favorite NBA team is the Houston Rockets.

From this program I am really hoping to learn a lot that I hadn't already known about computers and how they function. For example, learning how to troubleshoot the Internet or even fix its connectivity (if it were to be disconnected) would be very beneficial to me. Another example, would be how to clean out the hardware on the inside and find ways to make working with the computer easier. By the end of this year, I'm hoping to have a job where I could work in the technological field and possibly go further with it and make it a career.

So far, in this program I have learned that networking is a very profitable advantage to have when working with others. I also learned how to work a g-mail. The latest thing that we learned is what a blog was and how they function. I have really enjoyed working with the people that I have met so far. They know how to make things fun and also get the job done at the same time.
